ABS plastic is one of the most versatile materials and remains a cornerstone of industrial 3D printing due to its exceptional impact resistance, ability to withstand temperatures up to 110°C, and compatibility with professional post-processing techniques like acetone vapor smoothing. Its balance of mechanical durability and cost-effectiveness makes it ideal for functional prototypes, automotive components, and production tools requiring thermal stability.

How to Print ABS, PC, or PA-CF Plastic on FLSUN V400?

If one prints with ABS (or PC, PA-CF) plastic at standard temperatures of 240-245°C, the print quality is poor, and the speed is slow. This method is limited to printing small components only.

To achieve high-quality large component printing with ABS plastic, the nozzle temperature must be increased to 260-300°C.

Typically, at 270°C, ABS plastic in static conditions quickly absorbs heat and degrades. However, during high-speed printing, heat transfer is limited by time. It is necessary to rapidly transfer the required amount of heat so that the plastic melts properly and adheres well to the previous layer without degrading (i.e., the polymer chains of the plastic should not break).

Therefore, increasing the temperature to 300°C allows for higher print speeds and better product quality.

However, the stock FLSUN V400 3D printer does not support printing ABS plastic at temperatures of 260-300°C due to the following issues:

• Chronic nozzle clogs
• Layer separation
• Filament degradation

These issues lead to industrial-scale ABS components print failures.
